Now until March 20th, Black Alliance for Justice Immigration is holding a metro card drive/funding drive for its #SwipeItForward action.
#SwipeItForward campaign is part of the movement to get rid of Broken Windows policing, drawing attention to the fact that farebeating is the #1 most common arrest in NY and 92% of those arrested are people of color. These arrests often result in jail time, heavy fines, and can result in deportation for non-citizens. Meanwhile, the real crime is the high price of a subway or bus ride that keeps working class New Yorkers from being able to move around their own city.
Donate your unexpired MetroCards (with $ or without $).
You can donate your MetroCards by bringing them to the Kensington International Women’s Day Speak-Out on Wednesday March 8th at 6:00pm or at the next Occupy Kensington meeting on Sunday, March 12th at 7:30pm. If you can’t attend either event drop them off with an OK member (email email@example.com).
